AMDA College of the Performing Arts, with campuses in New York City and Hollywood, is one of the foremost post-secondary performing arts colleges in the country. AMDA offers various pathways for students to receive unparalleled performing arts education taught by world-class industry professionals, including Professional Conservatory Certificates as well as undergraduate and graduate degrees (Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Associate of Occupational Studies, Master of Fine Arts and Master of Arts).
 
AMDA Los Angeles is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual for the role of Dance Division Chair. The Chair will be instrumental in driving the program's curricular innovation, ensuring it remains at the forefront of dance education. This role involves strategic student recruitment and retention, supporting and maintaining an exceptional faculty of working artists, and guiding the program into its next phase of development. The Chair will foster an environment that nurtures students' artistic, social, and emotional growth, helping them achieve their academic and professional goals.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Develop and oversee the Dance program’s curriculum, ensuring it aligns with industry standards and prepares students for successful careers in dance performance, production, education, and content creation.
  • Recruit, mentor, and support a diverse and talented faculty.
  • Curate and manage performance opportunities for students, including showcases, productions, and collaborations with industry professionals.
  • Support student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Create and oversee artistic and academic support systems for students, helping them achieve their academic and professional goals.
  • Manage the administrative functions of the Dance Division, including budgeting, scheduling, and compliance with institutional policies.
  • Uphold institutional and division policies and procedures.
  • Participate in Chairs’ Meetings/Projects and collaborate with AMDA's academic and student support teams regularly.
  • Supervise the use of AMDA's LMS, Canvas, as a dynamic teaching and learning tool across Dance Division courses.
  • Assess program learning outcomes.
  • Student Concern Resolution as it pertains to the Division.
  • Oversee course surveys and action plans.
  • Teach course(s) and/or direct/choreograph productions each semester.
  • Regularly report to the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Executive Team.
  • Support and oversee the implementation of Academic Department Directors (ADD’s).
  • Supervise student level placement for all dance courses across the degree programs.
  • Course Oversight including semesterly Faculty assignments.
  • Faculty Performance Evaluations.

 

 
Position Information:
  • The pay range for this position is $90,000 - $100,000 annually.
  • This position is subject to a background check upon a conditional offer of employment and a reference check.
  • This position is a full time, in-person commitment. However, there will be latitude for certain administrative tasks to be performed remotely with pre-approval from a supervisor.

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree required, terminal degree preferred.
  • 5 years relevant industry professional experience required, 7+ years preferred.
  • 5 years of teaching experience required, 7+ years of higher education teaching experience preferred.
  • 4 years academic administration experience required, 6+ years of administration experience, including at a senior level preferred.
