The University of Portland located in Portland, Oregon, USA invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in the School of Nursing & Health Innovations to begin August 15, 2025. Candidates in all areas of expertise are welcome to apply. DNP-NPs are also encouraged to apply. Candidates with an M.S. in nursing or a health-related field are welcome to apply for a non-tenure-track Instructor position.
The School of Nursing & Health Innovations (SONHI) values a diversity of backgrounds and intellectual perspectives that create an environment of rich student mentoring within a community of scholars. The undergraduate and doctoral programs are built on the interconnectedness of individual social needs, clinical care, and community conditions. Successful candidates will have a high level of enthusiasm and engagement in innovative and inclusive pedagogy. The SONHI is ideally suited for candidates with a focus on cultivating human learning capacity and who are dedicated to addressing social determinants of health. The SONHI implements state of the art simulation in ambulatory, acute, and telemedicine facilities.
All SONHI faculty teach across programs, as well as assist students in achievement of course objectives, guide student interaction in course-related work groups, grade coursework and provide feedback. SONHI faculty serve as academic advisors to SONHI students, working with assigned students to support their progress through the program of study. All tenure-track faculty are expected to develop an active program of scholarship and collaborate with colleagues in service to the SONHI and UP.
Educational, Experience & Licensing Requirements:
- Required: Active unencumbered license as an Oregon RN or eligible for licensure in Oregon
- Preferred: Doctoral degree in Nursing or other health-related field (PhD, DNP, EdD) is required for tenure-track positions. Candidates who have not earned a doctoral degree prior to August 2025 would be considered for a position but would begin as a non-tenure track instructor.
- Preferred: If a DNP, national certification as a Nurse Practitioner
- Required: A minimum of three years of full-time patient care experience at the registered nurse level.
