Job Description

 

Provides instruction and assesses student learning in a variety of air conditioning/refrigeration (HVAC) and other related courses; serves as the program coordinator and provides leadership to maintain and develop the curriculum; participates in program promotion, articulation, and student recruitment as well as hosts the program advisory group;  serves on college committees, and performs other duties appropriate for a faculty member as assigned; is dedicated to the learning college concepts and develops programs and facilitates activities that promote student success and lifelong learning.

Essential Responsibilities:

A. Selects and reviews educational strategies and materials to facilitate achievement of competencies related to each course taught.

B. Prepares current syllabi and instructional materials in accordance with course master syllabi, college policies and procedures.

C. Advises, counsels, and assists students in accomplishing their course and program goals.

D. Meets classes as scheduled by the college and maintains office hours as stated in the KCC Faculty Association Contract.

E. Evaluates student performance and maintains and provides attendance and grade records for each class.

F. Remains current with content, technology and teaching and learning strategies in the discipline.

G. Assess student learning outcomes at the class, course, and program levels.

H. Participates in curriculum and course development.

I. Attends division and faculty meetings and communicates regularly with the division Dean regarding instructional concerns.

J. Functions as an academic advisor for students and assists in registration.

K. Participates in the faculty evaluation and in‑service development activities.

L. Works in a collaborative manner and responds to phone and email requests promptly.

M. Assists the division Dean in the recruitment and selection of part‑time instructors.

N. Provides course materials and assistance to part‑time instructors as requested by the division Dean.

O. Assists in budget preparation by recommending supplies and capital items where applicable.

P. Follows the policies and procedures of the college as stated in the Faculty Handbook and the KCC Faculty Association Contract.

Q. Represents and interprets the course informally at available opportunities.

R. Attends the commencement program.

Other Responsibilities:

A. Serves as the program coordinator for the air conditioning and refrigeration curriculum.

B. Sponsors the air conditioning and refrigeration advisory committee.

C. Assists the career planning office in identifying employment opportunities for air conditioning and refrigeration graduates.

D. Performs other duties as required or assigned by the division Dean.

Job Requirements

A. Associate’s degree in HVAC or 3 years related work experience required; bachelor’s degree preferred.

B. Must be able to lift and maneuver 50-75 pounds occasionally; use stairs while carrying 20-25 pounds frequently; and push, pull, or slide items of 75-150 pounds consistently with or without an accommodation.

C. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl with or without an accommodation.

D. Prior experience as an excellent, innovative teacher and with the use of instructional technologies desirable; community college teaching experience preferred.

E. Experience or educational background in construction or renewable energy preferred.

F. Qualified candidate must have strong reading, writing, communication, and computation skills as well as be computer literate or willing to learn.
