The University of Windsor is a medium sized university with a solid reputation in teaching and research. We describe our campus as the "best of both worlds." Large enough to offer a variety of choices, yet small enough to be very personal and supportive. It offers a friendly and supportive environment for both living and learning.

The University of Windsor is proud of its history of more than 140 years. With a solid reputation in teaching, research, and scholarship, the University offers the “degree that works,” an innovative and student-focused approach which prepares its graduates for the challenges of tomorrow.

It is Canada’s southernmost university, situated on a compact and attractive campus on the Detroit River. Its location on the U.S. border allows the 12,132 full-time students and 3,099 part-time students, 500 faculty and 761 staff to enjoy the combined benefits of a small community and the variety of lifestyles and choices available to those living within minutes of a large urban centre of over four million people.

Our comprehensive research and teaching university offers more than 130 graduate and undergraduate programs in nine faculties to a student base of 16,000 full- and part-time students from Canada, the U.S., and fully 10 per cent of our students are from 55 countries from around the globe.

The University’s international location provides unique cultural, recreational, and educational opportunities for faculty and students. Major American universities, including the University of Michigan, Michigan State University, Wayne State University, and the University of Detroit-Mercy are within a short drive. Several cooperative arrangements between the University of Windsor and major U.S. schools enhance student access to faculty expertise and research resources.

The City of Windsor and its suburbs are ethnically diverse and have one of the most community supportive populations in the country. The surrounding area contains some of Canada’s best agricultural lands, and is rich in tourism, heritage, and recreational resources. The only Canadian city situated south of the United States, Windsor boasts a temperate climate with the longest growing season in Canada. This allows for bountiful agriculture and some of Canada’s finest vineyards and wineries. Extensive shores on the Great Lakes system provide ample opportunity for water activities. The world’s busiest inland waterway, the Detroit River, separates the community with a regional population of 365,000 from an urban metropolitan area of more than four million people. At the same time, a short commute by tunnel or bridge connects Windsor to all the amenities of a large city. These include leading professional teams in all sports, a world-renowned art institute and symphony orchestra, and continual world-class performances in pop concerts, classical music, theatre, and other art forms.

These are very exciting times on campus with a major enrolment boom matched by the unprecedented hiring of more than one-quarter of our faculty complement within a three-year time period.
