Job Description

The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine invites applications from highly qualified candidates for full-time faculty appointments in the Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology. We are especially interested in candidates who are trained in both Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine. Appointments may be at any rank in the Clinician Educator Line, depending on the experience, interests, and qualifications of the candidate.

The necessary qualifications are an MD or DO degree (or equivalent), fellowship training in Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and/or Critical Care Medicine (if applicable), National Board of Echocardiography Certification in Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography, and a California medical license (or eligibility for a license or exemption).

Stanford Medicine performs more than 1,500 bypass cases per year and staffs a high-acuity, 24-bed CTICU service, with plans for growth in both areas. In addition to caring for a traditional cardiac surgical population, our service is heavily invested in managing heart, lung, and combined (heart-liver, heart-lung, heart-kidney) organ transplants; complex open and endovascular aortic surgeries; a large population of adults with complex congenital cardiac disease; and an active mechanical circulatory support program, which includes LVAD and ECMO (more than 100 runs per year). In addition to clinical duties, successful candidates will participate in the department’s robust educational and academic programs, with opportunity for involvement in teaching, research, quality improvement, and other faculty development activities.
