Location

Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144. Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

 



Department Information

Kennesaw State University is a large R2 institution with a broad student body (43,000 students, 52% underrepresented minorities, 38% first-generation, 34% Pell Grant eligible), placing it among the top 7% of research universities in the nation. The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) unites a multi-faceted and dynamic body of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to understanding molecular interactions and their outcomes across many scales, from the single-celled to the collective organization of multicellular organisms. Job Summary

Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for an administrative faculty position as a visionary and effective tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology (MCB) with a preferred start date of July 1, 2025. This is a twelve-month contracted position. This position is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities of the Chair, who reports to the Dean, include, but are not limited to:

  • Advocate for the department with respect to the mission and expectations of the department, college, and university
  • Advocate for the interests of a growing department comprised of a dedicated faculty serving a vibrant student body
  • Manage the department with a commitment to transparency, shared governance, collaborative decision-making, and the values of inquiry, fairness, and collegiality
  • Promote a work environment that is respectful, fair, and caring for all faculty and staff
  • Implement a plan for the departmental role in strengthening the university as an R2 research institution
  • Oversee the department budget and resources
  • Provide oversight of academic programs and developing new ones
  • Recruit and retaining faculty and staff
  • Mentor and steer the development of faculty and staff
  • Evaluate faculty and staff performance according to departmental and university guidelines
  • Commit to shared values of the department with respect to teaching, research, and in the administrative operations of the department
  • Empower faculty and staff in the pursuit of excellence in teaching, and research, with an emphasis on student success


Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • An earned doctoral degree, or its foreign equivalent, in the fields of molecular, cellular, developmental, or microbial biology, or related disciplines, with an academic background and appropriate credentials to be a tenured Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology in the College of Science and Mathematics at KSU is required.
  • A distinguished record in a field that interfaces with the Department's research programs, a strong history of extramural funding and research productivity, as well as a strong record of teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level reflective of current best practices.



Preferred Qualifications

  • A strong record of successful leadership, cultivating and promoting a shared vision among colleagues
  • A strong record of mentoring faculty and students, and innovating programs and curricula
  • A strong record of administrative experience, including budgeting, in a department, college, or university setting
  • A strong record of professional service and community engagement at department, college, university, discipline, and/or community levels
  • Experience in pursuit and administration of programmatic and/or training grants.
  • Experience in building academic and research programs
  • Experience collaborating with colleagues in multiple specialties or disciplines
